“Working As Partners” with the Steel Industry
SteelProfile03

Chapman Corporation is assisting domestic iron and steel producers as well as processors with cost-effective project management and construction services in solving their unique economic and environmental challenges. Chapman has successfully accomplished a long list of turnkey plant and line modernization projects for major U.S. steel mills.

Chapman's engineers and project managers have design, planning, scheduling, estimating, procurement and construction experience in various steel making processes as well as associated systems. Civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation services have been provided on projects that upgrade facilities which improve productivity to meet competitive requirements or satisfy state and federal environmental regulations.

Our installation and refurbishing expertise encompasses all forms of steel melting, holding, annealing and heat treating furnaces. These specialized construction skills extend to affiliated areas such as coke oven batteries, screening stations, sinter plants, boilers, electrostatic precipitators and continuous casters as well as sludge removal, wastewater, desulfurization and conveyor systems.

Chapman's commitment to the steel industry has also extended to fulfilling the construction needs of numerous plate, billet, tube, rail, rolling, galvanizing, blooming, hot and cold strip, and "Z" processing mills. Our construction firm has installed numerous lines such as:

  • Annealing and Pickling Lines
  • Hot-Dip and Electrogalvanizing Lines
  • Slitting and Shearing Lines
  • Leveling and Finishing Lines

In an effort to reduce costs the steel industry is reexamining their approach for major capital or maintenance projects. Many owners are discovering that it is more advantageous to act as project managers and use a multi-contract approach as an alternate option to a turnkey contract. Chapman has coordinated projects directly with an owner's operating and engineering departments who have chosen this project approach.

However, on more complex projects, Chapman's construction expertise has been enlisted by engineering specialists and equipment manufacturers to integrate their process technology concepts and products into joint venture project approaches. Our number one goal is to have a new mill up and running or an existing process back on-line with minimal production loss.

While Chapman has undertaken multimillion dollar startup or modernization projects, the company is organized in such a manner that it has successfully performed smaller contracts during planned shutdowns or emergencies. Forms of contracts vary from time and material to fixed price lump sum contracts, but regardless what the size of the project, you can be assured that Chapman will attain your goals.

Chapman's success with the steel industry can be clearly attributed to maintaining and executing the fundamentals of project management. Planning and detailing of each work item on a schedule together with the ability to adapt to changing conditions are essential ingredients to the early completion of projects as well as the elimination of cost overruns from concept through to commissioning and startup.
